Magnificent Meccano
Sunday 12th January 2014 1.00pm - 5.00pm

Admission Adults £3.00 accompanied children:free (Plus small charge for train rides).

Come and enjoy the nation's favorite engineering toy. Try your skills at the "have-a-go-table" and build your own masterpiece. See Hornby trains, Dinky toys and other items from the famous Liverpool factory. Take a train ride on the APS Railway and visit the LMTA Café for a well earned cup of tea and a cake. As always there is a warm welcome.


 

Steam Toys in Action
Sunday 2nd February 2014 1.00pm - 5.00pm

Admission Adults £3.00 accompanied children:free (Plus small charge for train rides).

This is the 24th year for this ever popular event. The biggest known gathering of steam toys in Europe. Now in its 24th year, this is Europe’s largest gathering of steam engines, boats and trains. See the musuem's collection of heritage vehicles on show. Ride the narrow gauge railway and then enjoy a slice of cake at the LMTA Café – the perfect end to a perfect day.

Hobbies & Pastimes Steam Day
Sunday 13th April 2014, 1.00pm - 5.00pm.
Standard admission charges apply (Plus small charge for train rides).

Nearly everyone has a hobby so this steam day is to celebrate as many hobbies and pastimes as we can squeeze into the museum. Community groups, specialist sports and dance groups, philatelists, lace makers, knitters, and many more will be exhibiting. Whatever is your passion or interest, come and see if you can find it at the museum, and talk to like-minded folk, or discover a new hobby. The museum’s collection of historic transport will be on display and at least one of the mighty beam engines will be in steam, as will the museum’s site railway. Don’t forget to refuel in the LMTA café where refreshments will be available
.

Emergency Services Railway Day
Saturday 3rd May 2014, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission to museum free (Small charge for train rides).

Where would we be without the amazing work of the emergency services? Come and meet the Fire Brigade, Police, Ambulance and other emergency services that help us in our hour of need. You can also take a ride on the museum’s narrow gauge railway. Refreshments available

 
Make a Nectar Feeder and a Cone Animal.

Teddy Bears Picnic Railway Day
Saturday 7th June 2014, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission Free ( Small Charge for Train Ride )

All Children who bring their teddies along with them to the event will get a free ride on the museum’s railway train. Picnic tables and lawns are available at the museum, so that you can bring you own picnic and teddy for a great day out. Refreshments available.


 

Leicester's Vintage Festival
Saturday 28th June 2014, 1.00pm - 5.00pm &
Sunday 29th June 2014. 12.00noon - 5.00pm.

Standard admission charges apply (Plus small charge for train rides).

The main event for this weekend should be the steaming of all four of the musuem's masive beam engines together, as this two day event celebrates our past; with the sights and sounds of steam and vintage vehicles along with live music, craft stalls and a ride on the museum’s narrow gauge railway. Visitors are welcome to wear period costume, be it Victorian to 1960s hippies.

The LMTA café will be open both days for refreshments.

 

Railway Gala Day
Saturday 5th July 2014 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission free ( Small charge for train rides ).

Why not come down and ride on the only 2 foot public Narrow Gauge Railway in Leicestershire? Ride behind one of the four resident internal combustion locos. All day ride tickets will be available and our Railway Guide book. After all this excitement you can have a cuppa and a cake at our own café in the main building, or enjoy your own picnic in the museum’s ground.

Finger puppets & Fridge Magnets

Animal Rescue Railway Day
Saturday 2nd August 2014 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission free ( Small charge for train rides ).

Support your local animal charities and learn more about the varied work they do. Go on an animal hunt around the museum and take part in animal themed crafts. Refreshments available.


 

Summer Seaside Mobile
Tuesday 19th August 2014, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission to museum free (£2.00; for activities).

To celebrate the summer holidays, come and make a “Seaside Mobile, get artistic and colour a picture of Punch and Judy, then play outdoors in sun. Play equipment and picnic areas available. Refreshments available.


 

Seaside Special Steam Day
Sunday 7th September 2014 Midday - 5.00pm

(Small charge for train rides, fairground and donkey rides)

Join us for our 6th seaside day at the Abbey Pumping Station. Enjoy the Sun, Sea and Sand once again, bring your swimsuit and join us on the museum's beach or relax in a deck chair while the children build sand castles. Enjoy all the sights and sounds of a traditional day at the seaside, complete with fairground rides, without the travelling! Take a trip on our narrow gauge railway or ride on a donkey. Meet up with Punch & Judy and view the museum's massive working beam engines, then enjoy the refreshments in the ever popular Beach café outside and the Museum cafe indoors. As an added bonus, the Leicester Transport Herritage Trust will be running vintage bus passenger services from outside the museum.

Creative Collage & Papercraft

Scarecrows Abound Railway Day
Saturday 4th October 2014, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission to museum free (Small charge for train rides).

Now that the harvest is safely gathered in and the work of the scarecrows is nearly done why not travel with us on the railway and see how many scarecrows you can spot. Follow the autumn trail round the museum then after all this you can enjoy a cuppa and a cake in our warm onsite café.


 

Ghostly Engineer
Monday 27th October 2014 7.00pm - 9.30pm

(Tours not suitable for children under 10 years)

Are you brave enough to take the spooky tour of the eerie engine house basement and hear the tragic tale of Robert Richardson, the Ghostly Engineer, while one of the museum's massive beam engines will be in steam right above your head! Wrap up warm and wear sensible shoes as the basement can be damp and has steep steps. Refreshments available in the LMTA café

Christmas Toys and Steam Day

Join us for the start of the Festive Season's Fun - listen to the live band play your favourite Christmas tunes in the engine house as the mighty beam engines turn. Marvel at the collection of toys from Christmas past, take a ride on the train and listen to the jolly fairground organ play. The museum's collection of vintage vehicles will also be on display. When the cold starts to bite, why not come into the warmth and enjoy the refreshments on offer at the LMTA café.

See the museum's collection of heritage vehicles also on show and ride the museum's narrow gauge railway and then enjoy some refreshment in the LMTA Café.
