Admission charges & times are shown against each event

Some events are organized by the Leicester Museums Technology Association in conjunction with Leicester City Museums Service and some events are organized solely by Leicester City Museums Service. All site admission charges go to Leicester City Museums Service. The events listed below are all subject to availability and weather. Due to fire safety issues certain areas of the museum have a restriction as to the number of visitors allowed in at any one time.

Parking on the National Space Centre car park is £3.00 per vehicle.
 

The Abbey Pumping Station Museum is open daily


The museum volunteers and staff are pleased that the public are once again allowed to visit the museum and special events are currently being prepared and will be listed below. For the safety of visitors, staff and volunteers there may be a need to manage the number of visitors within the museum. It is therefore essential that you keep an eye on this and the Leicester Museum’s website.

The Museum will be open daily from 11.00am until 4.30pm from 1st February until 31st October except for special event days when opening times may vary. Events for 2021 are shown below, but do keep an eye on this events page for any special events and their opening times.

Museum open 11.00am - 4.30pm. Trains running 11.15am - 4.00pm

Admission to museum free with a small charge for train rides, (Parking available on the National Space Centre Car park).

The Narrow Gauge railway will be running on all of these days using either Leonard or a diesel locomotive according to availability. Carriages have been split up into compartments and are cleaned on a regular basis.

The LMTA café is back in operation subject to Covid-19 restrictions in force on the date.

Museum Heritage Week Open Day Tours.
Monday 13th September 2021,

Museum open 11.00am to 4.30pm See below for tour times.

Admisssion to museum and tour of engine house free ( No on site parking available use the National Space Centre Car park ).

Tour our impressive Beam Engine house and see the massive beam engines and then tour the Transport Shed to see vehicles from Leicester's past.

This is a limited ticket event for tours so please pre-book to avoid disappointment. Tours at 11.00am, 12.15pm, 2.00pm and 3.15pm. Maximum number of 10 per tour group. Tickets available in advance from all Leicester Museum sites & "Visit Leicester" in the Richard III Reception, opposite the Cathedral in St. Martins Leicester. or email to aps@leicester.gov.uk to avoid disappointment.


Railway Day with Classic Cars.
Sunday 3rd October 2021 11.30am - 4.00pm
Museum open 11.00am - 4.30pm. Trains running 11.15am - 4.00pm

Admission to museum free with a small charge for train rides, (Parking available on the National Space Centre Car park).

A railway day with a difference, why not come along in your classic car (Registered before 1980) and exhibit it to the public on the museum site. You can arrive at any time and leave when you wish to. Please contact the museum either by email aps@leicester.gov.uk or phone 0116 299 5111, to give us some idea of numbers of cars arriving on the day.

Steam With the Team.

Admission to the museum is free. For the guided tour of the museum which takes approximately 45 minutes there is a charge of £6.00 per person. (Parking available on the National Space Centre Car park).

Your chance to take a full guided tour of the Beam Engine House, including the basement whilst one of the beam engines is running. (Not suitable for children under 10). Tours at 11.00am, 12.15pm, 2.00pm and 3.15pm. The LMTA café will be open for refreshments.

Numbers per tour are limited so please pre-book your ticket in advance. Tickets available from all Leicester Museum sites, "Visit Leicester" in the Richard III Reception, opposite the Cathedral in St. Martins Leicester or email to aps@leicester.gov.uk to avoid disappointment.
