Some events are organized by the Leicester Museums Technology Association in conjunction with Leicester City Museums Service and some events are organized solely by Leicester City Museums Service. All site admission charges go to Leicester City Museums Service. The events listed below are all subject to availability and weather. Due to fire safety issues certain areas of the museum have a restriction as to the number of visitors allowed in at any one time.

Parking on the National Space Centre car park is £3.00 per vehicle.
 

The Abbey Pumping Station Museum is open daily


The museum volunteers and staff are pleased that the public are once again allowed to visit the museum and special events are currently being prepared and will be listed below. For the safety of visitors, staff and volunteers there may be a need to manage the number of visitors within the museum. It is therefore essential that you keep an eye on this and the Leicester Museum’s website.

The Museum will be open daily from 11.00am until 4.30pm from 1st February until 31st October except for special event days when opening times may vary. Events for 2021 are shown below, but do keep an eye on this events page for any special events and their opening times.

Railway Running Days
Tuesday 13th July 2021 11.30 - 4.00pm.
and Tuesday 27th July 2021 11.30am - 4.00pm


Admission to museum free (Parking available on the National Space Centre Car park).

The Narrow Gauge railway will be running on both of these days using either Leonard or a diesel locomotive according to availablity. Tickets will be issued on a 'first come' basis with up to 5 family groups on each run with trains every 20 minutes. Carriages have been split up into compartments for up to 6 and are cleaned after each trip with only one family bubble allowed in each compartment to comply with Covid-19 secure conditions. Bookings to travel on the train are made at the museum reception desk on the day of travel and cost 50p per person and face masks must be worn on the train.

CBA Festival of Archaeology 2021
Saturday 17th July 2021 12.15pm - 4.00pm.

Admission to museum free (Parking available on the National Space Centre Car park).

Join us in Leicester Citys Launch of the Festival of Archaeology. Explore health and medicine in the past with our historical re-enactor. Join ULAS archaeologist Stephen Baker for a talk on the mass graves and other burials recently uncovered as part of the Waterside excavations in the city. As part of the day we have an "In Conversation with Raksha Dave" who will answer questions submitted by members of the public about her life and career in archaeology and television and the valuable role of archaeology.
