Standard Admission charges apply for all events unless otherwise stated.

Events are organised by the Leicester Museums Technology Association in conjunction with Leicester City Museum Services, with all admission charges being recieved by Leicester City Museum Services. All the events listed below are subject to availability and weather.


 

Magnificent Meccano
Sunday 11th January 2015 1.00pm - 5.00pm

Admission Adults £3.00 accompanied children free (Plus small charge for train rides).

Come and enjoy the nation's favourite engineering toy. Try your skills at the "Have-a-go-table" and build your masterpiece. See Hornby trains, Dinky toys and other itiems from the famous Liverpool factory. Take a ride on the APS narrow gauge railway and visit the LMTA Café for a well earned cuppa and a piece of cake.


 

Steam Toys in Action
Sunday 2nd February 2015 1.00pm - 5.00pm

Admission Adults £3.00 accompanied children free (Plus small charge for train rides).

This is the 25th Year for this ever popular event. The biggest known gathering of toy steam engines in Europe. Hundreds of toy steam engines, boats and trains. See the museum's collection of heritage vehicles also on show and ride the museum's narrow gauge railway and then enjoy some refreshment in the LMTA Café.

Let's Make Music Children's Day
Tuesday 17th February 2015 11.00am - 3.00pm
Admission to museum free (£2.00 for activities & a small charge for train rides)

Come along and make a musical instrument and use it to play your favourite tune, then follow the themed trail around the museum. Refreshments and picnic area available.

The site narrow gauge railway will be running subject to weather

 
Easter Children's Day
Tuesday 31st March 2015 11.00am - 3.00pm
Admission to museum free ( £2.00 for activities & Small charge for train rides)

Make a "Charlie the Cheeky Chicken" to brighten up your Easter and hunt for the chicks hidden around the museum to win an egg. Refreshments and picnic area available.

Hobbies & Pastimes Steam Day
Sunday 12th April 2015, 1.00pm - 5.00pm.
Standard admission charges apply (Plus small charge for train rides).

Nearly everyone has a hobby so this steam day is to celebrate as many hobbies and pastimes as we can squeeze into the museum. Community groups, specialist sports and dance groups, philatelists, lace makers, knitters, and many more will be exhibiting. Whatever is your passion or interest, come and see if you can find it at the museum, and talk to like-minded folk, or discover a new hobby. The museum’s collection of historic transport will be on display and at least one of the mighty beam engines will be in steam, as will the museum’s site railway. Don’t forget to refuel in the LMTA café where refreshments will be available, or enjoy your own picnic outside on the tables provided

Emergency Services Railway Day
Saturday 2nd May 2015, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission to museum free (Small charge for train rides).

Where would we be without the amazing work of the emergency services? Come and meet the Fire Brigade, Police, Ambulance and other emergency services that help us in our hour of need. You can also take a ride on the museum’s site railway pulled by 'Peter' the Diesel locomotive and see the museum's very own 1950's fire engine in operation. Refreshments available

 
Pretty Pencils Children's Day
Tuesday 26th May 2015, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission to museum Free ( £2.00 for activities & Small Charge for Train Ride )

Decorate a pencil and pencil holder with a little help from us, or create your own design. Then follow the themed trail around the museum. Refreshments in the LMTA café, or enjoy your own picnic outside on the tables provided

Teddy Bears Picnic Railway Day
Saturday 6th June 2015, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission Free ( Small Charge for Train Ride )

All Children who bring their teddies along with them to the event will get a free ride on the museum’s railway train. The museum is also celebrating the 50th birthday of its electric mini car, and hopefully some of his friends will becoming along to join the party from the mini Traveller and Countryman Register.

Picnic tables and lawns are available at the museum, so that you can bring your own picnic and teddy for a great day out. Refreshments available.


 

Leicester's Vintage Festival
Saturday 27th June 2015, 1.00pm - 5.00pm &
Sunday 28th June 2015. 12.00noon - 5.00pm.

Standard admission charges apply (Plus small charge for train rides).

This two day event celebrates our past: with the sights and sounds of steam and vintage vehicles along with live music, craft stalls cumulating with a ride on the museum's narrow gauge railway.

Visitors are welcome to wear period costume, be it Victorian to 1960's hippies or even futuristic SteamPunk!

Three of the mighty Gimson beam engines will be steamed together each afternoon at 3.30pm. This is the only place in the world where such a wonder can be seen.

The ever popular LMTA café will be serving refreshments throughout the afternoon on both days. Picnic tables are also available within the museum grounds.

 

Rockets Galore Children's Day
Tuesday 21st July 2015 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission to museum free ( £2.00 for activities plus small charge for train rides ).

"Rockets Galore" - Make a rocket - See it fizz - How high will it go?

Design your own rocket to go on a space walk, Then follow the themed trail round the museum. The ever popular LMTA café will be serving refreshments.

Animal Carnival & Railway Day
Saturday 1st August 2015, 11.00am - 4.30pm
Admission to museum free (Small charge for train rides).

Go wild at the Abbey Pumping Station by dressing up as your favorite animal and taking a trip on our train. Support your local animal charities and learn more about the work that they do. Take the animal carnival parade around the museum and take part in some animal themed crafts. The LMTA café will be serving refreshments and out door picnic tables are available in the museum grounds.


 

Papercraft Children's Day
Tuesday 18th August 2015 11.00am - 3.00pm.
Admission to museum free ( £2.00 for activities & Small charge for train rides) .

Have a go at papercraft - Make a coloured spinning wheel & a pigeon message holder. Play equipment and picnic tables avaiable. Refreshments available.

Seaside Special Steam Day
Sunday 6th September 2015 1.00pm - 5.00pm
Standard Admission charges apply
(Small charge for train rides, fairground and donkey rides)

Back by ever popular request: So join us for our 7th seaside day at the Abbey Pumping Station.

Enjoy the Sun, Sea and Sand once again, bring your swimsuit and join us on the museum's beach or relax in a deckchair while the children build sand castles. Experiance all the sights and sounds of a traditional day at the seaside without the travelling.

Take a trip on our narrpw gauge railway or ride on a donkey. Meet up with Punch & Judy and view the massive working beam engines. Then enjoy the refreshments in the ever-popular Beach Café outside and the LMTA refeshments served indoors.

Scarecrows Abound Railway Day
Saturday 3rd October 2015Tuesday 21st October 2014, 11.00am - 4.30pm.
Admission to museum free (Small charge for Railway Rides).

Now that the harvest is safely gathered in and the hard work of the scarecrows is nearly over, why not travel with us and see how many scarecrows you can spot and vote for favourite. The museum will have a themed trail to follow, after which perhap you can have a cool autumn picnic or come into the warmth and enjoy a cuppa in our own café. Picnic tables available in the grounds.


 

Ghouls & Ghosts Halloween Children's Day
Tuesday 20th October 2015, 11.00am - 3.00pm.
Admission to museum free (£2.00 for acivites and small charge for train rides).

Why not come dressed up in your Halloween fancy dress costume and make some ghouls and ghosts. Follow a trail round the museum to find our ghosts. Refreshments available in the LMTA café

Ghostly Engineer
Monday 26th October 2015 7.00pm - 9.30pm
Museum Admission Free. Pre-booked Tours: £3.00
(Tours not suitable for children under 10 years)

Are you brave enough to take the spooky tour of the eerie engine house basement and hear the tragic tale of Robert Richardson, the Ghostly Engineer, while one of the museum's massive beam engines will be in steam right above your head! Wrap up warm and wear sensible shoes as the basement can be damp and has steep steps. Refreshments available in the LMTA café

Christmas Toys and Steam Day
Sunday 6th December 2015 1.00pm - 5.00pm
Standard Admission charges apply (Small charge for train rides) .

Join us once again for the start of the Festive Season's Fun - listen to the live band play your favourite Christmas tunes in the engine house as the mighty beam engines turn. Marvel at the collection of toys from Christmas past, take a ride on the train and listen to the jolly fairground organ play. The museum's collection of vintage vehicles will also be on display. When the cold starts to bite, why not come into the warmth and enjoy the refreshments on offer at the LMTA café.

Christmas would not be Christmas without a visit to the APS Steam Day!
